Hip Tendinopathy & Muscle Injuries
Gluteal tendinopathy, adductor strains, and other soft tissue conditions around the hip
The hip is surrounded by powerful muscle groups including the gluteals, adductors, hip flexors, and hamstrings. Tendinopathy (degeneration of tendons) and acute muscle injuries are common causes of hip and groin pain, particularly in active individuals and athletes.
Gluteal tendinopathy affects the tendons that attach to the greater trochanter (outer hip bone) and is a key component of Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome. Adductor tendinopathy causes inner groin pain and is common in football and hockey players. Hip flexor tendinopathy causes anterior hip/groin pain.
Most tendinopathies respond well to a structured rehabilitation programme focusing on progressive loading exercises. USS-guided injections can provide pain relief to facilitate rehabilitation. Surgery is rarely needed but may be considered for refractory cases.
